This is an interesting one. I find Will Smith is still making pretty good movies, but not as good as the ones he was making in the '90s. I enjoyed both of these movies, to a degree, but they have their problems. However, my biggest problem with I Am Legend is the CGI (which came close to derailing the whole thing), but I thought the story itself was good, and Smith's performance excellent.

Both movies are good but could have been better - I enjoyed I, Robot over I Am Legend but would like to see both of these movies remade. I, Robot made as a cop drama and I Am Legend as a moody horror movie.

What's the deal with non-human supporting characters stealing Will Smith's thunder? The German Shepherd was the true star of I Am Legend, and "Sonny" was the most interesting character in I, robot by some distance. Legend was mainly tedious with bad acting, an unoriginal plot, and boring interactions. I, robot was well-rounded and had a unique vision for an otherwise hackneyed scenario (thanks to Asimov's hard work). It deserves more recognition.

I really enjoy both films. After seeing them again a few months ago, I'm going to give the slight edge to I, Robot, mainly because I felt the storyline had a little bit more meat to it than I Am Legend. I really like some of the philosophical elements regarding robots, and the issue of whether or not a robot could ever feel emotions or have a soul. I, Robot wins, even though I really like the atmosphere, tone and tension of I Am Legend.

Definitely I Am Legend, especially with the alternate ending in the Director's Cut.
