Pikachu: DS Tech Demo is a tech demo for the Nintendo DS that was available at E3 in 2004, used to show what the Nintendo DS is capable of; this includes touch screen and microphone functionality, 3D models, and displaying bright colors. It is similar to Hey You, Pikachu!, Pokémon Channel, and Pokémon-Amie. It was never made available to the general public. It was later implemented into Pokémon Dash's title screen, albeit stripped down.

Gameplay

The game involves playing with a 3D model of Pikachu at a location called Pokémon Park. There are seven main game modes, and an items option.

Drawing

A semi-transparent notepad appears on the lower screen, and Pikachu moves behind it so that it can be traced. On the right-hand side of the lower screen, a set of colors appears, followed by an eraser. Pikachu requests that the player draws it. After drawing the picture, Pikachu will give its opinion on the drawing.

Guitar

A lightning bolt-shaped guitar, featuring Pikachu's tail in its design, is placed on the lower screen, which can be played with the stylus. Pikachu dances on the top screen to the music made.

Measure

In the measure game mode, Pikachu catches a Magikarp on the top screen, and throws it to the lower screen. The player uses a measuring stick to measure how long the Magikarp is; the longer the Magikarp, the happier Pikachu gets.

Xylophone

A xylophone appears on the lower screen, and can be played with the stylus. Pikachu dances on the top screen to the music made.

Pull

In this mode, the player can pull on Pikachu's cheeks to stretch them; releasing causes the cheek to spring back into place. It is also possible to move Pikachu's tail and ears.

This is rather similar to Pokémon Dash's starting screen, where the player can pull Pikachu's tail, cheeks, ears and arms.
