Thomas, or Tom as he was affectionately known, was the loving husband, soulmate, and best friend of Kit LaFumee Dunbar. Their love story was one for the ages, beginning with a simple newspaper ad and blossoming into a lifelong journey filled with love, three children, and the promise of ten grandchildren.
Tom’s charismatic and joyful spirit made him a magnet for those around him. If you knew him, you undoubtedly loved him. His kindness, care, and boundless love were his trademarks. Tom was not only smart as a whip but also a successful entrepreneur who built, owned, and operated a thriving business from the ground up. His dedication and hard work were an inspiration to all who knew him. Born on February 5, 1954, in New Haven, Tom was the son of the late Richard Dunbar, Sr., the late Eleanor Molleur Dunbar Dattilo, and the stepson of the late Anthony Dattilo. He served his country with honor and duty during the Vietnam era as a proud member of the US Navy.
As an adult, Tom embarked on a diverse career journey, including roofing, sales, and becoming the owner/operator of the former United Sewer & Drain. He was also a former member of the Hamden Fish & Game, where he found great joy in fishing and bonding with family and friends. Tom’s passion for hunting and his proficiency in survival skills earned him a captain’s certification, showcasing his determination and love for adventure.
Among his greatest joys in life was sharing meals and laughter with his beloved wife, Kit. His family, including his children and soon-to-be ten grandchildren, held a special place in his heart. Tom’s love for them was unconditional and immeasurable, and he treasured every moment spent in their company.
In celebrating Tom’s life, we remember the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.
